PPSA and its member groups are sometimes involved in the preparation for, or response to, emergencies.
For example: bushfire and other natural disasters (e.g. flooding); and disease or biosecurity emergencies (with the commodity associations likely to have roles in some of these situations). Livestock SA has been particularly active and involved in the response to drought in parts of the state.
PPSA and its member groups have been consulted by the CFS on policies such as the:
- Farm Fire Unit Guidelines
- Grain Harvesting Code of Practice
- Broadacre Burning Code of Practice – soon to be released for consultation
Grain Producers SA has taken the leading role when matters relate to grain producers.
Rural Business Support also provides one-on-one support for farm businesses in some of these situations.
Recently PPSA and its member groups have provided feedback to the Minister for Emergency Services on proposed emergency services reform and the unpopular Emergency Services Levy increases.
PPSA is represented on the State Bushfire Coordination Committee, as well as Regional Bushfire Management Committees, and the Fire Prevention Strategic Alliance.
